Our Rice Processing Journey

Rice Processing Journey Flow

Technical Department

After harvesting, carefully selected paddy is transported to our modern rice mills for processing. Our technical team oversees every stage of the rice milling process in Kerala, ensuring equipment operates efficiently while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

Continuous investment in advanced machinery, automation and skilled technicians enables us to improve productivity, reduce wastage and maintain consistent product quality. Preventive maintenance, process monitoring and regular inspections ensure smooth operations throughout the facility.

Laboratories & Rice Quality Control

Quality is verified at every stage of production through our dedicated research and development laboratory. Our specialists evaluate grain length, texture, aroma, stickiness, flavour and overall appearance to maintain the premium standards associated with Keerthi Nirmal.

Comprehensive rice quality control procedures include routine laboratory testing, random sample inspections and detailed quality analysis to ensure consistency across every batch. These processes help us minimise variations while delivering rice that meets the expectations of consumers and industry standards.

Milling process

Rice Milling Process

Understanding how rice is processed begins with the milling stage. Rice consists of approximately 20% hull, 11% bran layers and 69% starchy endosperm. During milling, the outer husk is carefully removed while preserving the grain's nutritional value and quality as much as possible.

The paddy first passes through an indent cylinder, where undersized grains are separated from whole grains. The rice then moves through carefully controlled milling operations that remove the husk and bran layers while minimising broken kernels. Whole grains continue for grading, polishing and quality inspection before packaging, while by-products such as husk, bran and broken rice are utilised efficiently in secondary applications.

Our advanced rice milling process is designed to maximise yield while preserving the natural characteristics, texture and flavour of every grain.

Parboiled Rice Processing

Approximately 50% of our total production consists of parboiled rice, one of Kerala's most preferred rice varieties.

Our parboiled rice processing method follows three essential stages:

• Soaking

• Steaming

• Drying

This controlled process improves grain strength, enhances nutritional retention and produces rice with its distinctive texture and cooking characteristics.

Every stage is carefully monitored to maintain product consistency while reducing environmental impact through responsible water management.

Effluent Treatment Plant

Responsible manufacturing is central to our operations. During parboiled rice processing, wastewater generated from soaking contains organic matter that requires specialised treatment before discharge.

Our Effluent Treatment Plant, developed by Galaxy Environ ETP using technology licensed from CSIR-NIIST, applies biological anaerobic treatment followed by chemical treatment to meet environmental discharge standards. This advanced system significantly reduces water pollution while supporting sustainable rice production.

Water Treatment Plant

Water conservation is an integral part of our production process. Our advanced Water Treatment Plant purifies and recycles water used throughout the facility, reducing freshwater consumption while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Recycled water is safely reintroduced into approved production processes, helping conserve natural resources without compromising quality.

Biogas Plant

Organic waste generated during rice milling is converted into renewable energy through our Biogas Plant. By transforming organic matter into biogas, we reduce waste, lower carbon emissions and generate clean energy to support our manufacturing operations.

Rainwater Harvesting

Our rainwater harvesting system captures and stores rainwater from facility rooftops, reducing dependence on external water sources while helping replenish groundwater reserves. This sustainable initiative supports long-term water conservation and reinforces our commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing.
